In the heart of the Smoky Mountains surrounded by Cherokee National Forest lies Standing Bear Farm, a turn of the century multi-generational farmstead including the original homestead, barns, outbuildings and farmhouse. Hostel housed in a historical mansion in the state park near the halfway point of the AT. We offer individual overnight accommodations as well as group reservations with exclusive use of the facility for day use, overnight use, or both. The hostel is closed on Tuesdays, and during special events such as weddings and receptions.

The hostel is open 6 days a week and is closed on Tuesdays (the inkeeper’s off day). It will also be closed due to special events on the following dates.

The Allenberry Resort is one of a kind and so are the accommodations. Choose from a restored 1820s beautiful Stone Mansion with wraparound porch and garden, cozy cottages with kitchenettes and living rooms or well appointed lodge rooms and suites. All accommodations feature premium bedding, wi-fi, flat screen TVs and more. Hikers are housed in a separate building, theater on site, store with beer, food, and drinks.

Our first mission began in 1976, when the church opened a hostel for through hikers on the AppalachianTrail. We are the oldest hostel on the trail, welcoming foot weary hikers from around the world. We are not open to people with car support, scout groups, tour groups or short distance hikers but for those making the long trek we offer many different kinds of support. We have a bunk room, shower, lave, and sitting room inside and a three sided shelter called Matt’s Place, on the property. The first night is free. Stays are limited to two nights unless an emergency exists. Then the Pastor’s permission should be sought. The church has a strict no alcohol, no illegal drugs policy.

Cars may not be parked on the property at any time. Mail drops are not accepted but the post office is next door.

All cabins come complete with a fully stocked kitchen, bedding and linen’s. Plus each cabin comes with a starter supply of paper products and detergent’s for the dishwasher and washing machine, all to make the start of your stay as seamless as possible!

Set on leafy grounds, this relaxed B&B in an A-frame log cabin is 7 miles from Desert Rose Ranch & Winery, 12 miles from Chester Gap Cellars and 3 miles from I-66. The 4 classic, warmly decorated rooms offer complimentary Wi-Fi. Some come with 4-poster beds, sleigh beds, rocking chairs and/or living areas with fireplaces. In-room massages are available. Nestled in Moody Hollow and sitting next to the headwaters of the Hiawassee River, these cabins offer a great getaway. Guests find a special solitude not found in other campgrounds. Although we have a limited number of sites they are all very spacious. With 20 campsites, 15 of which are on the river, it allows for a more private camping experience. Some campers have found it so desirable; they’ve stayed for 6 years! 10 minutes from Hiawassee and 15 Minutes from Helen, you’re close to a variety of restaurants, quaint shops, grocery stores, beautiful Lake Chatuge, 6 new movie theaters and Funworld for the kids. Campers enjoy being minutes from High Shoals Falls, the Appalachian Trail and Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia.

Appalachian Cabins combine the rustic charm of yesteryear with the comfort of modern day conveniences. The cabins were constructed in the same manner as the early settlers of this area used to build their homes more than a century ago. All the timber, which came from Spruce Mountain, was milled in nearby Hardy County, and then hand hewn and assembled on-site.

We provide a gateway connecting people to the “rollercoaster” section of the Appalachian Trail. Bears Den is owned by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and operated by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. Mount Cardigan rises up out of the Shem Valley as a beacon for outdoor lovers. Hikers are drawn to its bare summit not only for views but also for the quiet forests that line its approach. Look for salamanders, mushrooms, and blueberries along the way. Waterfalls, a small pond for swimming, and a nature trail await young explorers. Winter adventurers will enjoy the many possibilities for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing.

Next to Mount Cardigan State Forest, Cardigan Lodge is located on a 1,200-acre reservation owned by AMC and features a peaceful, roads-end location. Explore our 50 miles of trails, join a family guided exploration, or simply relax on our deck or by the fireplace. If that’s not enough, head to nearby Wellington State Park on Newfound Lake to paddle or enjoy a sandy beach. Cardigan offers a choice of private rooms with private bath, private bunkrooms with shared bath, and individual and group walk-in tentsites. Our High Cabin, just below the Cardigan summit, is great for groups seeking a more remote, backcountry setting

All three bedrooms have private baths. We serve a delicious hearty homemade breakfast every morning outside on our porch or inside our lovely dining room. The main floor is completely available for guests. We have secure wi-fi, but no cable or TV. Well behaved children are welcome. We do not have accommodations for pets, but there are kennels in the area. Our home is handicapped accessible with a wheelchair ramp, wide doorways, and easy access to all guest areas.
