Just saw the movie on New Years Eve 2015 last night called “A Walk in the Woods”, which is about hiking the Appalachian Trail. The story is about two friends that served in the military together that take an adventure on the Appalachian Trail starting in the South from Georgia.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the movie in many ways. While they were traveling they should have said exactly where they were at the bottom of the screen, maybe so many miles hiked, and how many to the next destination. Some of the highlights shown were nicely shot and displayed the points of interest but they did not name them or mention them in the movie. Also they did not make you connect with Robert Redford in this movie. The opening scene was horrible with the interview by a local tv station. They should have told you why he is a writer, and got more into what he was missing in his life, or that this may be his final traveling journey. Some more incite would have connected me more with the characters. Maybe a flashback with his old military buddy.

I did like the certain piece of the theme of re-connection of two friends, and finding what life was about while on the trail. There should have been more history, more characters they meet that told the story. For instance who you meet while camping and their experiences on the trail. The ending of the movie was the biggest disappoint of all for me as they did not even finish the trail and make it to Katahdin in Maine. It was like they ran out of money for the movie and had to cut it short. They say its about the journey not the destination, but they should have highlighted more places, shown more beauty, and discussed more of the problems people face along the trail. I would give this movie a 2 out of 5 stars, it just lacked the wow factor and the information about the Appalachian Trail.
