The Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only footpath in the world! It crosses through 14 states, from Maine to Georgia. It runs for 2,190 miles, and more than 71 of those miles run through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It takes about 7 days to hike the part of trail that runs through the National Park, but you can cut it shorter by making Clingmans Dome or Newfound Gap the midpoint. At Clingmans Dome, you’ll reach the highest point in all of Tennessee! When you hike the trail, you’ll see the beauty of the Smoky Mountains firsthand. If you are thru-hiking the A.T. northbound, you have hiked over 2000 miles when you reach Andover ME. Southbounders, this is your last place to enjoy Maine hospitality. Pine Ellis is a great spot for you to take a day off the trail, kick those boots off and give yourself a rest before you continue your hike.
We regularly pick up and drop off at the two closest trail heads of the A.T. (East B Hill and South Arm Rd) which are a mere 15 minutes away from our B&B, and we offer shuttle services to and from these other trail heads : Gorham (Rte #2), Grafton Notch (Rte #26), Rte #17, Rangeley (Rte #4).

The Catamount is very conveniently located on Route 7 in Bennington, just south of the intersection of Route 9 in a quiet neighborhood but only minutes from downtown. All of our rooms have outside entrances, dedicated parking, private bathrooms, air conditioning, individual thermostats for heating, satellite TV, WiFi, small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, writing desk, telephone with free local calling and alarm clocks. All have either two double beds or 1 queen bed. Ice, soda, and bottled water available. Restaurants and grocery stores are within walking distance. We, David and Danielle, (Texas and Stumbles) have transformed the lower level of our home into a place where hikers can relax and recharge. Spend time on one of our decks, get cozy on one of the couches in our common area, and sink into one of our memory foam beds at the end of the day, all linens provided. We’ll pick you up in “Big Blue” and take you home for a hot shower, laundry, resupply and dinner run, and send you on your way the next morning after eating a hiker sized hot breakfast. Blood Mountain Cabins are rustic, no-frills cabins located high in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia, ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to get back to simpler times.
Located a short footpath away from the world-famous Appalachian Trail and surrounded by the wilderness of the Chattahoochee National Forest, we are near the top of Blood Mountain, over 3000 feet above sea level, and we rarely see a temperature as high as 80°.
Our 13 quaint cabins on 4+ acres nestled in the mountains can accommodate up to 4 adults. Each cabin has a bedroom with a queen bed and a loft with a queen bed. These cabins all have a similar layout and functionality. We have some on the ridge, some on the creek, a few are pet friendly, and we even have a handicap-accessible unit.
Book one for one night or book all for a week – this community is excellent for large groups and families to plan get-togethers while still having their own private cabin! Reserve early so that you can choose cabins close to each other before they are booked up.

In 2025 the lodge will be open for lodging Wednesdays through Sundays.
The lodge provides overnight accommodations for all sorts of visitors from around the world; tourists, hikers, as well as families on a mid-week getaway with the kids. With a variety of private rooms, and one bunk room, the lodge can accommodate over 30 guests in a diversity of rooming arrangements.
Like the lodge, the rooms are small. Intimate private spaces, softly lit by amber lights, open into common rooms with broad hardwood floors, fieldstone fireplaces and dark paneled walls. Our rooms reflect an era of quiet comfort against a back-drop of rustic adventure. The splendidly designed Stickley furnishings, organic cotton sheets, blankets, and pillow cases together with a bottle of Saratoga mineral water on the bedside table will help refresh the body and soothe the spirit. The lodge does not have televisions.

Wood’s Hole Hostel is located on 100 acres of land, surrounded on three sides by the Jefferson National Forest and protected by 780 acres of privately owned land. Located in Southwest Virginia, an easy drive from both I-77 and I-81.
Built in 1880 by Stoney Holiday and purchased by Tillie & Roy Wood in 1942, the property has a long and fascinating history. Tillie & Roy opened a bunkhouse for hikers in 1986, and it has been operated by their granddaughter Neville since 2009.

The Appalachian Trail-er has space for ten and is located on the A.T. in beautiful Hot Springs, North Carolina. True to its name, the Trail-er is a 1,600+ square foot converted double wide that serves as a basecamp for all manner of BRHC trips, as well as a bunkhouse for hikers, backpackers, trail runners and paddlers. Reservations should be made in advance at 828-622-3319, as walk-ups are based on availability and the caretaker’s schedule. The Trail-er has a small retail counter with limited backpacking supplies and BRHC merch.Bookings include a clean bunk with linens, a hot shower, wifi, TV, kitchen access, and all the amenities Hot Springs has to offer. The Trail-er is also available for private group rentals. We look forward to hosting you in Hot Springs!
Gear and logistics are the two biggest hurdles that keep people from backpacking more often. With a selection of rental gear, shuttle services, and trip planning services, the Appalachian Trail-er offers a quick fix for both. Trip planning services include detailed trip itineraries, information about campsite locations, meal plans, etc.
We rent packs, tents, sleeping bags and pads, trekking poles, camp stoves, cookware, first aid kits, water filters, you name it. We also sell trail maps and have meal packages available (with advanced reservations). Just bring your clothes, toiletries, and personal items and you’re good to go!
To access the Appalachian Trail from the Trail-er… just walk out the front door! Or take a shuttle. Our seven passenger 4WD vehicle can take you anywhere you want to go within a two-hour radius, with the most popular trailheads being Max Patch (20 trail miles south), Davenport Gap (36 trail miles south, at the north end of the Smokies), and Allen Gap (15 trail miles north). Small Axe Farms sits on 75 acres of land in Virginia’s beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley. Bisected by Elk Run, which flows from Shenandoah National Park to the Shenandoah River, the property is half rolling pasture and half wooded hills.
